Labor & Birth
While each birth journey unfolds uniquely, these principles are held in common to prioritize overall safety throughout the birthing journey.

Immediate Postpartum
The midwifery team attends to physical and emotional needs for four to six hours after the baby is born at home
- Monitors birth giver's vital signs, bleeding, and recovery
- Can provide vaginal suturing if needed
- Monitors baby's vital signs, breathing efforts, temperature, and color
- Performs assessments with baby skin to skin with parent's permission
- Watches for signs of breast/chest-feeding readiness
- Facilitates first latch and feeding experience
- Cleans birth space and launders towels and sheets
- Charts in medical record
- Performs head-to-toe assessment, weight, measurements, and administers newborn medications after first feeding
- Bids farewell until the next day's visit once parent and baby are stable and well-fed
- Calm and relaxed post-birth environment at home
- Can contact midwives directly for advice after they leave, anytime day or night
Postpartum Care
- In-home postpartum visits from birth until 2 weeks

The usual expenses associated with a homebirth range from $3,500 to $4,000, varying depending on several factors such as:
